36 Houses needed a day?

Len Brown the Auckland Mayor has announced that Auckland will need up to another 400,000 dwellings over the next 30 years. If you do a few simple calculations that works out to be more than 36 new dwellings needed every day for the next 30 years! I'm really not sure where these are coming from. It does however make it pretty clear the continual pressure that it going to be put on Auckland house prices.
